The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has released the first quarterly update of its PAIMANA (Project Assessment, Infrastructure Monitoring & Analytics for Nation-building) Performance Dashboard, expanding the platform to cover 165 infrastructure performance indicators across six major sectors. The update was released on 16 July 2026 and includes the latest official data received from various ministries and departments.
Originally launched on 16 April 2026, the PAIMANA dashboard is designed to provide a single platform for monitoring India’s infrastructure performance using standardized indicators. The latest update adds 44 new indicators, introduces sector-wise analytical narratives, and aims to improve public access to official infrastructure statistics while supporting evidence-based policymaking.
Key Highlights
- The PAIMANA dashboard expanded to 165 indicators, with 44 new indicators added in the latest quarterly update.
- Infrastructure performance is now tracked across Civil Aviation, Roads, Power, Ports, Telecommunications, and Railways.
- The dashboard continues to measure performance using five dimensions: Access, Quality, Fiscal Cost & Revenue, Utilization, and Affordability.
- Telecommunications recorded 24.7% YoY growth in mobile data consumption during FY 2025–26, while telephone subscribers increased to 133.06 crore.
- National Highway construction reached 9,360 km during FY 2025–26, while rail freight efficiency and port activity also improved.
- The next quarterly update of the PAIMANA dashboard is scheduled for 16 October 2026.

Dashboard Now Covers 165 Infrastructure Indicators
The latest quarterly update increases the number of performance indicators on the PAIMANA dashboard from 121 to 165, reflecting a broader coverage of India’s infrastructure sector. The dashboard now includes:
| Infrastructure Sub-sector | Indicators |
| Ports, Shipping & Waterways | 62 |
| Railways | 37 |
| Civil Aviation | 31 |
| Power | 14 |
| Telecommunications | 13 |
| Roads | 8 |
| Total | 165 |
Beyond simply expanding the number of indicators, the dashboard now includes sector-wise explanations to help users better understand recent trends. This makes the platform more useful for policymakers, researchers, businesses, and the general public seeking official infrastructure statistics.
Strong Performance Across Multiple Infrastructure Sectors
The quarterly update highlights continued growth across several infrastructure sectors.
Civil Aviation reported cargo movement of 98,920.10 tonnes in April 2026, up 11.8% from a year earlier. The number of operational aerodromes has increased to 165, representing an addition of 81 airports since 2014. During FY 2026–27 (up to May), passenger traffic reached 7.1 crore, cargo handling stood at 7.3 lakh tonnes (up 10.6% YoY), and 10.52 lakh foreign tourists arrived in India through air travel during April–May.
In Telecommunications, wireless and mobile data consumption reached 2,85,376 petabytes during FY 2025–26, registering 24.7% year-on-year growth. Telephone subscribers increased from 120.17 crore to 133.06 crore, while telecom infrastructure expanded to 8.55 lakh towers and 32.25 lakh Base Transceiver Stations (BTS). Tele-density also improved to 93.26%, indicating wider digital connectivity across the country.
The Road Transport and Highways sector continued expanding with 9,360 km of National Highways constructed during FY 2025–26. Digital toll collection also gained momentum, with electronic toll collection transactions rising to 88 crore during FY 2026–27 (up to May), an increase of 39.7% over the previous year. This reflects the continued adoption of electronic toll payment systems.
Railways, Ports, and Power Show Long-Term Capacity Expansion
The Railways sector continued improving both freight movement and network capacity. The average carrying capacity of Broad Gauge wagons increased to a record 64 tonnes per wagon in 2024–25, compared with 60.8 tonnes in 2015–16. Average daily passenger traffic reached 19.98 million, while the railway network expanded to more than 1.37 lakh track kilometres. Average freight load per wagon also increased to around 68 tonnes, indicating higher operational efficiency.
The Ports, Shipping, and Waterways sector also reported steady growth. Passenger traffic at non-major ports reached 2.06 crore during FY 2024–25. Coastal cargo handling increased to 196,808.7 thousand tonnes at major ports and 142,219.4 thousand tonnes at non-major ports. India’s fleet expanded to 1,592 vessels in 2025, while sea-borne trade nearly doubled from 76 million tonnes in 2015 to 145 million tonnes in 2023. Inland water vessel numbers reached 10,623 during FY 2024–25, supported by an expansion of navigable waterways to 29,151.9 km.
The Power sector update focuses on future energy storage requirements. According to the dashboard, India’s storage requirement is projected to increase from 87 GWh in 2027–28 to 888 GWh by 2035–36. Pumped Storage Plant (PSP) capacity is expected to reach 94 GW, while Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) capacity could rise to 80 GW by 2035–36. The projections reflect the growing importance of energy storage as renewable energy capacity continues to expand.
Why This Update Matters
Infrastructure is one of the key drivers of India’s economic growth, and timely official data helps governments, businesses, and researchers monitor progress across different sectors. By consolidating performance indicators from multiple ministries into a single platform, the PAIMANA dashboard offers a more comprehensive view of how infrastructure is evolving.
The addition of new indicators and regular quarterly updates also enhances transparency by making official statistics more accessible and easier to compare. According to MoSPI, the next quarterly update of the PAIMANA Performance Monitoring Dashboard is scheduled for 16 October 2026.
