Uttar Pradesh MSP Procurement Extended Till July 8, 6.18 Lakh Houses Approved

The Central Government has extended the Minimum Support Price (MSP) procurement period for wheat, gram, and masoor in Uttar Pradesh until July 8, 2026, providing additional time for farmers to sell their crops at government-fixed prices. The decision was announced during a high-level review meeting in Lucknow between Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

During the meeting, the Union Minister also handed over an approval letter for 6,18,482 pucca houses under the new phase of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G). The approval is intended to support eligible rural families in Uttar Pradesh by providing permanent housing.

Officials discussed a long-term scientific agricultural roadmap for Uttar Pradesh, focusing on climate change, water conservation, irrigation, crop planning, and technology to strengthen agricultural productivity and improve farmers’ incomes.

Scientific Agriculture Plan for Uttar Pradesh

During the review meeting, Shivraj Singh Chouhan described Uttar Pradesh as India’s largest agricultural state, noting that it contributes around 38% of the country’s wheat production. He said the state plays an important role in ensuring India’s food security and increasing farmers’ income.

Officials discussed the need for a long-term scientific agriculture strategy to address challenges such as climate change, rising temperatures, and declining groundwater levels. The proposed roadmap will include crop patterns, irrigation systems, water conservation, improved seeds, agricultural technology, and marketing strategies. A draft framework was reviewed during the meeting and will be finalised jointly by the Central and Uttar Pradesh governments.

The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi, and senior officials from both governments.

MSP Procurement Extended for Rabi Marketing Season 2026–27

The Central Government approved Uttar Pradesh’s request to extend the MSP procurement period for wheat, gram, and masoor until July 8, 2026.

According to the government, the extension is intended to ensure that farmers can sell their produce at MSP despite practical difficulties such as adverse weather, delayed crop arrivals, weighing issues, and overcrowding at mandis. The decision is expected to benefit a large number of farmers across the state and reduce the risk of distress sales below the MSP.

The meeting also reviewed the impact of below-normal rainfall and the possibility of El Niño conditions during the current season. To reduce risks, district-wise contingency plans will be prepared, promoting short-duration and low-water-requirement crops based on local water availability, soil conditions, and existing cropping patterns.

Officials also decided to strengthen advisory services through Krishi Vigyan Kendras, the state agriculture department, and local administration to ensure the timely availability of seeds and technical guidance.

6.18 Lakh Rural Houses Approved Under PMAY-G

The Union Government approved 6,18,482 pucca houses for Uttar Pradesh under the new phase of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G).

The approval is part of the national PMAY-G programme for 2024–25 to 2028–29, under which the Centre plans to construct an additional two crore rural houses across India. Uttar Pradesh’s allocation will provide permanent housing to eligible rural families in phases.

According to the government, the survey of rural households in Uttar Pradesh has already been completed, and eligible families living in kutcha houses have been identified. The next stage will focus on timely construction, quality control, financial support, and technology-based monitoring to ensure that approved beneficiaries receive permanent homes.

The review meeting was also attended by Deputy Chief Minister and Rural Development Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, Minister of State for Agriculture Baldev Singh Aulakh, Minister of State for Revenue Surendra Diler, and senior officials from the Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development departments of both the Central and Uttar Pradesh governments.
